A headshot does not need to feel formal or uncomfortable.
Whether you need an updated LinkedIn profile, a photo for your website, or simply something that represents you and your work with confidence, a good headshot should feel natural, relaxed, and true to who you are.
That is always the aim here.
At my garden studio near Andover in Hampshire, headshot sessions are kept simple and straightforward. No pressure, no complicated setups - just a calm space where you can feel at ease in front of the camera.
Your session will take place at my studio in Anna Valley, just outside Andover.
We will take a variety of images during your shoot, using both light and dark backdrops to give you a choice of looks. Some clients prefer something soft and natural, others want a slightly more polished or dramatic feel - we can explore both.
You are very welcome to bring a change of outfit, which can make a big difference to the final set of images. Even a simple swap of a jacket or top can create a completely different look.
There is no rush during the session. I will guide you gently throughout, so you are never left wondering what to do. Most people arrive feeling a little unsure and leave saying it was much easier than they expected.
Headshot sessions are £95 and include:
Additional digital images are available at £20 each, so you only purchase what you love.
Headshots are not just for corporate roles.
They are for small business owners, creatives, freelancers, and anyone who wants to show up professionally online. They are also a lovely way to update your image as your work or life evolves.
If you have been putting it off, you are not alone. But it is often one of those things that feels like a bigger step than it really is.
My approach to photography is always the same - calm, honest, and people-focused.
No heavy posing, no forced smiles. Just simple guidance, good light, and space for you to settle into it.
The result is a set of images that feel like you on your best day.
If you have been putting off updating your headshot, this is your reminder that it does not need to be complicated.

Maternity Photography in Andover, Hampshire
There is a quiet chapter before your baby arrives.
It often passes quickly, somewhere between appointments, to-do lists, and trying to imagine what life is about to become.
And yet, it is a chapter worth remembering.
Before the sleepless nights.
Before the tiny fingers and first smiles.
It is just the two of you.
A slower rhythm. A different kind of closeness.
That gentle awareness that everything is about to change, even if you cannot quite picture how.
Maternity photography is not about perfect poses or knowing what to do in front of a camera.
It is simply about pausing, just for a moment, to acknowledge where you are right now.
Many women tell me they nearly didn’t book a maternity shoot.
Not because they didn’t want the memories, but because it felt a little daunting.
You might be feeling tired.
Your body might not feel like your own.
You might be wondering if you will feel comfortable in front of the camera.
All of that is completely normal.
My approach to maternity photography is calm, guided, and unhurried.
You do not need to know how to pose.
You do not need to bring anything complicated.
You simply need to arrive.
From there, I gently guide you into natural positions that feel like you, focusing on connection, softness, and light.
These sessions take place in my garden studio in Anna Valley, near Andover in Hampshire.
The space is quiet, private, and designed to feel relaxed.
I use soft, natural light and simple, neutral textures to create images that feel timeless rather than trend-led.
Nothing distracting, nothing over-styled.
Just you, your bump, and this moment in time.
Your baby will one day be part of your everyday life.
But right now, they are still a quiet presence.
Felt rather than seen.
There is something incredibly special about that.
Photographs from this stage are not just about how you looked.
They are about how it felt to be here, waiting.
Your story does not begin when your baby arrives.
It begins here.
That is why every newborn photography booking includes a complimentary mini maternity shoot, so you can remember both chapters, not just what comes next.

I photograph maternity and newborn sessions from my studio in Anna Valley, near Andover, welcoming families from across Hampshire including Winchester, Basingstoke and Salisbury.
If you are expecting and would like to capture this part of your story, you are always very welcome to get in touch.
Welcoming a new baby into the world is one of life’s most precious milestones, and many parents dream of capturing those early moments with professional newborn photography. But one of the most common questions I’m asked is: when is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?
The truth is, every baby is different – and every family’s story is unique. But here are some gentle guidelines to help you decide when to schedule your session here at my garden studio in Anna Valley, Hampshire.
The first two weeks after birth are often considered the “sweet spot” for newborn photography. Babies at this age are still very sleepy, love to curl up naturally, and are often most settled in those womb-like poses. This allows me to capture those timeless, classic images that parents adore – from tiny fingers and toes to peaceful little stretches.
Life with a newborn can feel overwhelming, and sometimes getting out in the first fortnight just isn’t possible – and that’s completely okay. Beautiful photographs can still be created with slightly older babies. Between 3–6 weeks, your baby may be more alert and expressive, which means we can capture wonderful eye contact and little smiles alongside those softer, sleepy portraits.
Because babies rarely arrive on their exact due date, I recommend booking your newborn photoshoot around your 20-week scan. I’ll make a note of your due date and hold space in my diary, then once your baby is born we confirm the exact date. This way, you’re guaranteed a slot during that perfect early window – and you can relax knowing it’s all taken care of.
Every session is completely baby-led. I take things slowly, with plenty of breaks for cuddles, feeding, or simply settling. Your baby’s safety and comfort are always my top priority – I’ve had specialist newborn safety training and years of experience working with little ones. Parents often say the studio feels like an extension of home: calm, welcoming, and relaxed.
Whether your baby is one week old or six weeks old, the most important thing is preserving this fleeting stage before they grow and change. These photographs will become part of your family’s story – memories to treasure for years to come.
If you’re expecting a little one, I’d love to welcome you to my studio near Andover, Hampshire.

Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most extraordinary – and let’s be honest, most overwhelming – experiences. Between the sleepless nights and the endless nappy changes, booking a newborn photoshoot might feel like just another thing on your growing to-do list. But if you're here, chances are you're wondering what it's all about – and whether it’s right for you.
As a Hampshire-based newborn photographer (and mum myself), I know how many questions come up when you're thinking about capturing those early days. So here’s a gentle, no-pressure guide to the top 5 questions I get asked about newborn photography – and my honest answers.
The ideal window for a newborn session is usually between 5 and 14 days old. At this stage, babies tend to be sleepier and curl up in those classic newborn poses. That said, every baby is different – and life doesn’t always go to plan. If your baby is a little older, please don’t worry. I regularly photograph babies at 3, 4 or even 8 weeks old, and the images are just as beautiful – more awake, more eye contact, more personality.
My approach is always baby-led. Whether they’re wide awake or fast asleep, we go at their pace and make it a calm, nurturing experience for everyone involved.
The best time to book your newborn session is while you're still pregnant – ideally around your 20-week scan. This helps me plan availability around your due date. Don’t worry – we won’t set a fixed day. I’ll reserve a flexible slot in my diary, and once baby arrives, we’ll confirm a time that works for you.
That said, if your baby is already here – it’s absolutely still worth getting in touch. I often have last-minute spaces, and I’ll always do my best to fit you in.
You can take a look at my newborn photography packages here – they’re designed to be simple, transparent, and flexible depending on what feels right for your family.
The short answer? Very little! I provide all the wraps, soft knits, and timeless neutral pieces we’ll need for the session. Most of my clients love the natural, simple style I use – nothing fussy, just your baby as they are.
If you'd like to bring something special (a blanket from grandma, or a little hat you love), you’re always welcome to. But there’s no pressure. My Anna Valley garden studio is warm, peaceful and fully equipped with everything needed to keep baby happy and safe.
Absolutely. In fact, I encourage it. Those early moments of connection between you and your baby are some of the most precious images we’ll create. Partners, siblings – and even pets (where practical!) – are welcome to join. I keep the posing natural and unforced. Think cuddles on a soft bed, gentle kisses, those tiny fingers wrapped around yours. These aren’t about perfect outfits or rigid smiles – they’re about real connection and family love.
If you’d like to include older children or make it more of a full family session, I can chat through how that works when you enquire. All my packages include the option to add family and sibling shots.
You are not alone in this worry – I promise. But please let that fear go. Babies cry. They feed. They need cuddles. It’s all part of the process.
I’ve been photographing newborns for over 7 years, and I’ve seen it all – colic, cluster feeding, nappy explosions… there’s nothing your baby can do that will faze me. Sessions are calm, unhurried, and completely baby-led. We stop for feeds and cuddles as often as needed. My job is to create a soothing environment where everyone feels safe and supported – especially you.
Final thoughts
Whether you’re brimming with excitement or feeling a little frazzled (or both – totally normal), I hope this post has helped answer some of the questions spinning around your mind. If you’re thinking about booking a newborn photoshoot in Hampshire, just know that there’s no pressure or expectation – only a gentle, warm welcome, and someone who really gets how emotional and precious this season is.
If you’d like to read what other parents have said about their experience, you can browse my Google reviews here – or pop over and say hello on Instagram or Facebook for recent work, behind-the-scenes peeks and updates on upcoming sessions.
And if you have any other questions, I’m always happy to chat – no hard sell, just a friendly conversation with someone who’s been there.
With best wishes,
Helen

When it comes to newborn photography, soft neutral tones never go out of style. They create a calm, timeless look that focuses all the attention on your baby – their tiny features, delicate skin, and those first sleepy expressions you’ll never want to forget.
This moodboard is designed to inspire parents who love a minimal, natural aesthetic. Think warm creams, gentle beige, soft whites and subtle greys – colours that feel both peaceful and elegant. These tones complement all skin types beautifully, and they work well in both close-up baby portraits and relaxed family images.
At my garden studio in Anna Valley near Andover, I’ve carefully chosen props, wraps, headbands and backgrounds to suit this style. From knitted bonnets and textured blankets to timeless family setups, everything is designed to help your newborn shine without overwhelming them with fuss or colour.
You don’t need to plan every detail – I’ll guide you through options based on what suits your taste, home décor, and your baby’s comfort. Whether you're after a minimalist white-on-white setup or a cosy layered look with soft textures, we'll create something truly personal.
If this gentle, neutral look speaks to you, I’d love to help you capture it. I offer calm, baby-led sessions with plenty of time for feeds, cuddles and rest, so there’s never any rush.
Thinking ahead?
Newborn photos are best taken in the first 2–3 weeks after birth, so it’s a good idea to book during pregnancy. Every newborn booking includes a free mini maternity shoot too – a lovely way to celebrate the journey before your baby arrives.

As the festive season approaches, many Hampshire families are starting to think about how they can capture the magic of Christmas with beautiful, lasting memories. My Magical Christmas Photoshoots near Andover have become a popular way to do just that. However, with a growing number of photographers offering similar sessions, it's essential to understand why booking with a seasoned professional can make all the difference.
When it comes to photography, quality should never be compromised. As a professional photographer, I have invested years into perfecting my craft. From understanding the nuances of lighting and composition to mastering the post-processing techniques that bring out the best in every image, my goal is to create photos that not only capture a moment but tell a story.
While there are cheaper options available, many of these photographers may not have the experience or equipment necessary to deliver high-quality images. The result can often be blurry, poorly lit, or just plain uninspiring photos that don't do justice to your family's special moments. A professional session ensures that every shot is of the highest standard, providing you with images you'll cherish for years to come.
Every family is unique, and your photo session should reflect that. I take the time to get to know you and your loved ones before the session, understanding your preferences, and discussing ideas to ensure the shoot captures your family's personality. Whether it's a traditional Christmas theme or something more playful and fun, I'll work with you to create a customised experience.
Cheaper photographers often operate on a one-size-fits-all basis, rushing through sessions with little consideration for your individual needs. This can result in generic photos that don't truly capture the essence of your family or the holiday spirit.
Great photography requires more than just a camera; it demands professional-grade equipment and an expert who knows how to use it. From high-quality lenses that create beautiful bokeh effects to lighting setups that enhance the festive ambiance, my gear is designed to produce stunning images.
Less expensive photographers may not have access to this level of equipment, or they might not know how to utilize it effectively. This can lead to photos that are poorly composed or have unflattering lighting, detracting from the overall quality of your images.
Christmas a busy time, and the last thing you want is a stressful photo session. As a professional, I know how to manage the flow of the shoot, keep the atmosphere light and fun, and ensure that even the most camera-shy family members feel comfortable. My goal is to make the experience enjoyable for everyone, allowing you to relax and enjoy the moment.
Cheaper photographers might not have the same level of experience in managing sessions, which can lead to rushed, chaotic shoots that leave you feeling frazzled rather than festive.
From the initial consultation to the final delivery of your images, I pride myself on paying attention to every detail. I meticulously edit each photo to ensure that colours are vibrant, the lighting is perfect, and every image is a true reflection of your unique family.
Lower-cost photographers often cut corners in post-processing, resulting in images that may lack the polish and professional finish that you deserve.
Christmas is a time for creating memories, and those memories deserve to be preserved in the best way possible. The photos from your session will be cherished for years, shared with family and friends, and perhaps even passed down through generations. This is an investment in your family's history, and it's worth choosing a trusted photographer who can deliver timeless, high-quality images - just read my reviews.
When it comes to capturing the magic of Christmas, you deserve nothing less than the best. By booking a Christmas mini photo session with me, you're investing in more than just photos; you're investing in memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t be tempted by cheaper alternatives that may leave you disappointed. Instead, choose a photographer who will provide you with a personalised, stress-free experience and deliver stunning images that you'll treasure forever.
So this Christmas, let me help you capture the joy and wonder of the season with a photo session tailored just for you. Let's create something beautiful together here in Hampshire!
You will have received an email with the date and time of your slot. Please make sure you are on time. I have multiple shoots running consecutively and if you miss your slot, you miss your photoshoot! You have 30 minutes for your shoot.
This year's set-up will be light and airy, as shown in the photos on this page.
I will take some classic portraits as well as the magical image. There will be 2 set ups for your shoot -

You are welcome to bring a change of outfit for your children or stay in the same outfit for both set ups. Go smart or casual, but avoid bold patterns and large logos to keep your images timeless and to keep the focus on faces rather than clothes.
For the magical image, you can choose Christmas pyjamas. I recommend Next or Asda for Christmas PJs, both of which have a click and collect facility in Andover. I love Zara for kids clothes, which may be worth a looksie!
You have 30 minutes for your mini session. Since children don’t usually want to hang around posing, I have to work fast! If you are happy to, bring some sweets or whatever works in case we need to bribe your children, but I’m confident that we’ll get some lovely smiles.
My studio is in our garden, so it’s a house you’ll be looking for. The address is Blacksmith’s Cottage, 8 Waterloo Terrace, Foundry Road, Anna Valley, SP11 7LY. We are diagonally opposite Greenfield Farm Shop and you can park on the road, but please don’t block the driveway. Please come through the side gate when you arrive and go straight on up to the studio, a lovely cosy log cabin, where I will be waiting to welcome you.
I will edit your photos and create a private online gallery for you to view them and choose your package. You can then purchase your chosen package online, for immediate digital downloads. Your deposit will be deducted from the package price.
Your gallery will be ready for you within 1 week of the shoot and I will email you as soon as it is ready. You will also be able to order Christmas Cards, snow globes, Christmas tree baubles and more, all from your online gallery.

I hope this answers many of your questions. If you would like to discuss your session, please get in touch via my Contact Page.

A cake smash photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate your baby's first birthday. It's messy, fun, unpredictable and often full of surprises.
One of the questions I'm asked most often by parents is, "What if my baby doesn't smash the cake?"
The truth is that every baby reacts differently. Some dive straight in with both hands, while others spend the entire session carefully inspecting the icing. Both reactions are completely normal, and both make for beautiful photographs.
If you're planning a cake smash photoshoot, here are a few simple tips to help your session run smoothly and ensure everyone enjoys the experience.
I recommend booking your cake smash session when your baby is around 10 to 11 months old.
This gives us plenty of time to create your photographs, arrange your viewing appointment and order any prints, frames or gifts before their first birthday celebrations.
My Hampshire cake smash sessions take place in my relaxed garden studio near Andover, where everything is set up and ready for your arrival.
Many parents are surprised to learn that the cake smash itself is only one part of the experience.
Before the cake makes an appearance, we begin with a selection of family photographs and individual portraits of your baby.
Many parents tell me afterwards that these become some of their favourite images from the session. While the cake smash is great fun, there is something particularly special about capturing your baby just as they are at this age - those cheeky smiles, chubby hands and rapidly changing features that seem to disappear overnight.
We'll also create family photographs and sibling portraits if you'd like them. As parents, we're often the ones taking the pictures rather than appearing in them, so this is a lovely opportunity to update your family photographs at the same time.
Once we've captured those timeless portraits, we move on to the cake smash itself, safe in the knowledge that we've already created a beautiful collection of clean, classic images before the icing starts flying.
Next comes the exciting part.
The cake is placed in front of your little one and we simply let them explore.
Some babies immediately start pulling pieces off the cake. Others prefer to poke it gently with one finger before deciding whether it's worth tasting.
There is absolutely no expectation that your baby will perform on cue. The best photographs often come from those natural moments of curiosity and discovery.
After the cake comes the bath.
A warm bubble bath is included in every session and is often the highlight of the entire experience.
Babies love splashing, playing and making even more mess, while parents appreciate heading home with a much cleaner child than they expected.
When it comes to clothing, less is often more.
Simple outfits photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your baby.
For girls, soft dresses, rompers and tutus work particularly well.
For boys, shorts, dungarees or simple nappy covers create a timeless look.
Neutral colours such as cream, beige, soft sage, dusty blue and muted pink tend to photograph beautifully and complement the styling of the session.
Don't worry if you're unsure what to choose. I have a selection of outfits available for use during your session.
Some babies have never experienced buttercream icing before.
Offering a small piece of cake at home a few days before the session can help them become familiar with the taste and texture.
If your baby isn't keen on getting their hands dirty, introducing a little messy play beforehand can help.
Activities such as yoghurt painting, finger painting, jelly play or simply squashing soft foods can help build confidence with new textures.
A well-rested baby is usually a happier baby.
Try to schedule the day so your little one has had a good nap before their session and arrives fed, comfortable and ready to explore.
To help everything run smoothly, I recommend bringing:
Most importantly, bring your patience and your sense of humour. Babies rarely read the script, and that's often where the magic happens.
This is probably the biggest worry parents have.
The good news is that it happens more often than you might think.
Some babies prefer eating the cake.
Some babies prefer sitting next to it.
Some babies are far more interested in the wooden spoon than the cake itself.
And occasionally a baby decides the bubble bath is the only part of the session worth participating in.
As an experienced cake smash photographer, I've learned that there is no right or wrong reaction. Beautiful images can be created regardless of how enthusiastic your little one is about their birthday cake.
The goal isn't to force a cake smash. It's to capture your baby's unique personality at this wonderful age.
While it might be tempting to try a cake smash at home, professional sessions are designed to make the experience stress-free for parents.
At H Jones Photography, I provide:
Most importantly, you get to enjoy watching your baby's reactions while someone else handles the photography and the clean-up.
Most cake smash sessions take place when babies are around 11 months old, allowing time to enjoy the images before their first birthday.
Yes. The cake is included as part of your cake smash experience.
Absolutely. Sibling and family photographs can often be included at the beginning of the session.
Please let me know when booking and we can discuss suitable alternatives.
Most sessions last around an hour, giving plenty of time for portraits, cake smash fun and splash bath photographs.
My photography studio is located in Anna Valley, just outside Andover in Hampshire. It's a cosy garden studio with free parking right outside, making it easy to arrive with little ones, changing bags and all the essentials that seem to come with them.
Many families travel from Andover, Winchester, Basingstoke, Salisbury, Newbury, Romsey and the surrounding areas for their sessions.
Detailed directions and parking information.
Your baby's first year passes in the blink of an eye.
Whether they enthusiastically destroy the cake, delicately nibble the icing or spend the entire session splashing in the bath, a cake smash photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate this special milestone.
If you're looking for a relaxed cake smash photographer in Hampshire, I'd love to help you create some beautiful memories of this fleeting stage before your little one turns one.
