I'm Helen Jones, an experienced newborn photographer based near Andover in Hampshire, welcoming families from Southampton and across the South Coast to my warm and relaxed garden studio.

With over eight years of newborn photography experience, specialist newborn safety training and emergency first aid certification, your baby's comfort and wellbeing are always my highest priority.

When you book a newborn photoshoot, you'll also receive a complimentary mini maternity session during your pregnancy.

It's my gift to you, allowing you to document both chapters of your journey into parenthood.

Many families tell me they treasure these photographs just as much as their newborn portraits, capturing the anticipation before meeting their little one.

The mini maternity session takes place in my studio at around 7-8 months, and includes a relaxed photoshoot with access to my collection of maternity gowns. Family members included.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?

The ideal time to photograph a newborn baby is within the first two weeks after birth, when babies tend to be sleepier and naturally curl into those beautiful newborn poses.

Because availability is limited, I recommend booking during your pregnancy, ideally after your 20-week scan.

Don't worry if your baby has already arrived though. I sometimes have last minute availability, so it's always worth asking. 

Older newborns can still be beautifully photographed, and I welcome babies of all ages.

Your Baby's Safety Comes First

Many parents are surprised to learn that newborn photography in the UK is a completely unregulated industry.

Unlike professions such as nursing, midwifery or childcare, there are no legal requirements for photographers to undertake training before photographing and posing newborn babies.

This means that anyone can purchase a camera, advertise newborn photography services and begin handling newborn babies, regardless of their experience or training.

As a parent myself, I understand how much trust families place in me when they hand over their precious new arrival. That's why I have invested in specialist newborn photography safety training and regularly refresh my emergency first aid qualifications.

Throughout your session, your baby's comfort, wellbeing and safety will always take priority over any photograph. Sessions are entirely baby-led, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and settling. If your baby is uncomfortable, unwilling to settle into a pose, or simply needs a break, we follow their lead.

Many of the beautiful newborn images you see online require careful support, specialist training and an understanding of what is and is not safe for a newborn baby. I will never attempt a pose that could place your baby at risk.

All sessions are booked with a £95 session fee, which secures your shoot and includes:

- Your photoshoot at my studio or chosen outdoor location
- Use of carefully selected props, outfits and styling
- A relaxed, unhurried experience guided at your pace
- Professional hand-editing of your images
- A private in-person viewing appointment to choose your favourites

Image collections and printed products are purchased separately.

Image collections offer a range of options available depending on how many images you’d love to keep.

Many families choose to invest in one or two beautiful pieces of wall art, such as framed prints or albums, to enjoy their images every day.

Wall art and printed products are completely optional and are chosen during your viewing appointment.

There is no obligation to purchase beyond your chosen collection, and I’m always happy to guide you through the options so you can choose what feels right for your family and your home.

Mini session pricing

Mini sessions are priced a little differently to my full photography sessions. 

They are short, carefully timed sessions held on set dates and locations, with limited availability and a consistent setup for each family. 

Because of this, mini session pricing is fixed and packages are not customisable in the same way as my full sessions. This allows me to keep mini sessions more accessible while still giving you the same gentle guidance, professional editing and timeless final images you expect from H Jones Photography.

Your questions answered

To ensure availability, it’s best to book your newborn photoshoot while you’re still pregnant. I only schedule a limited number of sessions each month to accommodate babies arriving early or late. The ideal time to photograph newborns is within the first 7-10 days when they are still very sleepy and pose easily.

Newborn photoshoots typically take between 2-4 hours. This allows time for feeding, changing, and settling your baby so we can capture the best moments. My studio, easy to reach from Southampton, is designed to make both parents and babies feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the session.

You’ll only need to bring essentials such as nappies, milk (if bottle-feeding), and a dummy if your baby uses one. I provide a selection of wraps, props, and outfits, but you are welcome to bring any personal items or outfits you’d like to include in the photos, including clothing for parents and siblings, who I will also photograph.

No need to worry! I have extensive experience working with newborns and understand that every baby is unique. We’ll take breaks as needed for feeding, cuddling, or soothing, making sure your baby is comfortable before we continue the session.

Yes, I love including parents and siblings in the photoshoot. Capturing these early moments with your newborn and family creates timeless images that you’ll cherish forever.

To help your baby feel settled and sleepy during the session, try to keep them awake for about an hour beforehand and feed them just before arriving. Dressing your baby in something easy to remove will also make it easier to start the session smoothly.

Around one week after your photoshoot, I'll invite you to your Viewing Session. You'll be shown a stunning slideshow of your gallery of 20 images. You can then choose from one of my packages and any framed prints, albums or other products. I take care to select and edit the best images, ensuring they capture the precious early days of your baby’s life.

Your baby’s safety is my top priority. I am trained in newborn posing and always ensure your baby is in a safe and comfortable position. My Southampton studio is kept clean and sanitized, and I take every precaution to provide a safe environment.
