Hi - I'm Helen - owner of H Jones Photography and mother of two.
My beautiful photography studio is in the village of Anna Valley, just outside Andover, 20 minutes from Basingstoke. I am dedicated to capturing beautiful, timeless photos for you to document this important milestone in your lives.

I provide everything for you, including the cake, props and outfits, so you just turn up and be prepared to get messy!

I work with you before the shoot, to ensure you get the most from your investment. It's really important to me that you display your photos in your home, so I always give printed copies of your photos, as well as digital copies of course. I also offer framed prints, albums and more - excellent keepsakes for you or to gift to grandparents.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A CAKE SMASH SHOOT

My cake smash photoshoots always begin with take some timeless portraits, before moving on to the cake smash itself, finishing with photos of your little one splashing in a vintage tin bath with lots of bubbles, which means you get to take a nice clean baby home with you!

The session will take approximately one hour and I recommend that you have the photoshoot when your baby is 11 months old, so you have the beautifully edited photos back in time for your little one’s big day.

CAKE SMASH PHOTOSHOOT SESSIONS MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Cream backdrop, a giant white balloon and various props to choose from, including a vintage style car, wooden bowls, a miniature rustic style wooden bed, soft fluffy rugs and a little wooden chair

The cake – I tend to prefer a ‘naked’ iced vanilla cake with flowers or a wooden cake topper, or a giant cupcake, to keep it simple and all about baby rather than the decorations

PHOTO PACKAGES

I have a choice of three packages for you to choose from, starting at £295 for 5 images. You also have the option to personalise your package by adding fine art prints, framed prints, personalised albums and other professional photo products. All products are produced by specialist photographic printers, who only work with professional photographers. I am here to help you create a bespoke package to meet your individual requirements.

I provide a range of products for you to gift to them and the whole family. 

I also offer interest free payment plans, to help you spread the cost and to ensure you get everything you want from your photoshoot, to remember these treasured times forever.

There is a session fee of £75 to book with me, which is separate from your chosen package.

A cake smash session is a fun, playful photoshoot typically done for a baby’s first birthday, where they are photographed smashing and eating a cake, often followed by some portrait photos or a clean-up "splash" session.

It’s best to schedule the photoshoot when your baby is around 11 months old, so you can have the photos ready in time for their first birthday celebration or party.

I include the cake in their package, either a giant cupcake or a naked iced cake, with icing in a colour of your choice. I recommend keeping it simple, so the focus is on your baby and not on the decorations.

Yes! Just get in touch to let me know what you need.

You don't need to buy an outfit for your baby's cake smash shoot, as I have tons of dresses, rompers, nappy covers, shorts, leggings and tutus! I also have some floral headbands and numerous props. If you prefer to bring an outfit of your choice, of course, you are more than welcome to.

Cake smash shoots can get very messy! I am prepared with backdrops and have systems in place for easy clean-up. I also offer a “splash” session afterward, where your baby can enjoy a bubble bath in a tin bathtub to clean up, which adds more adorable photos to the session. Be prepared to get messy yourself! If you are going out somewhere after the shoot, you might like to bring a change of clothes!

A typical cake smash photoshoot lasts around 60 to 90 minutes. This includes time for portraits, the actual cake smash, plus a splash session to finish.

If you'd like to add some family portraits before the cake smash shoot, please let me know, as I need to factor in extra time. There is a small surcharge for this.

I professionally edit your photos to create a gallery of 20+ images. The typical turnaround time is 1-2 weeks. I then invite you back to my studio for your viewing session, where you choose one of my packages, plus any framed prints, albums or other products.

It’s not uncommon for some babies to be hesitant with the cake. I am very experienced in encouraging babies and capturing those spontaneous moments, even if the session doesn’t go as planned. I always provide a little wooden spoon, which babies can play with beside the cake, if they're not interested in eating!

There is a session fee of £75, payable at the time of booking. At your viewing session, you can choose from one of my packages, plus any framed prints, albums or other products. Check out my pricing page for current rates.
