What Happens During a Cake Smash Photoshoot?

Every cake smash session is designed to create a varied gallery of beautiful images.

We begin with simple birthday portraits, capturing your baby's smile, expressions and growing personality. We can also include some family photos at the start.

Next comes the cake smash itself.

Some babies enthusiastically dive into the cake from the very beginning, while others take a more thoughtful approach and spend time investigating every detail first.

Both reactions create wonderful photographs.

To finish, we move on to a warm splash bath session, which not only helps clean up sticky fingers but often produces some of the biggest smiles of the day.

Your questions answered

Most families book when their baby is around eleven months old, giving plenty of time to receive their images before the first birthday.

That's completely normal. Every baby reacts differently and we capture beautiful images regardless of whether they enthusiastically attack the cake or simply investigate it.

No. The cake is included, either a giant cupcake or a naked iced cake, with icing in a colour of your choice. I recommend keeping it simple, so the focus is on your baby and not on the decorations.

Yes. We can discuss family photographs when planning your session.

The studio is located in Anna Valley, near Andover, and is easily accessible from Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.

Cake smash shoots can get very messy! I am prepared with backdrops and have systems in place for easy clean-up. I also offer a “splash” session afterward, where your baby can enjoy a bubble bath in a tin bathtub to clean up, which adds more adorable photos to the session. Be prepared to get messy yourself! If you are going out somewhere after the shoot, you might like to bring a change of clothes!

A typical cake smash photoshoot lasts around 60 to 90 minutes. This includes time for portraits, the actual cake smash, plus a splash session to finish.
