I'm Helen Jones, an experienced newborn photographer based near Andover in Hampshire, welcoming families from Basingstoke and across North Hampshire to my warm and relaxed garden studio.

The session takes place in my studio, at around 7-8 months, where you'll have access to a selection of beautiful maternity gowns and expert guidance throughout.

Your Baby's Safety Comes First

Many parents are surprised to learn that newborn photography in the UK is a completely unregulated industry.

Unlike professions such as nursing, midwifery or childcare, there are no legal requirements for photographers to undertake training before photographing and posing newborn babies.

This means that anyone can purchase a camera, advertise newborn photography services and begin handling newborn babies, regardless of their experience or training.

As a parent myself, I understand how much trust families place in me when they hand over their precious new arrival. That's why I have invested in specialist newborn photography safety training and regularly refresh my emergency first aid qualifications.

Throughout your session, your baby's comfort, wellbeing and safety will always take priority over any photograph. Sessions are entirely baby-led, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and settling. If your baby is uncomfortable, unwilling to settle into a pose, or simply needs a break, we follow their lead.

Many of the beautiful newborn images you see online require careful support, specialist training and an understanding of what is and is not safe for a newborn baby. I will never attempt a pose that could place your baby at risk.

A Calm, Baby-Led Experience

Life with a newborn can feel overwhelming.

That's why I've designed every session to be as relaxed and stress-free as possible.

The studio is warm, comfortable and fully equipped with everything needed for your newborn session. There is no rush, no pressure and no expectation that your baby will sleep perfectly.

We simply follow your baby's lead.

Sessions typically last between two and three hours, allowing plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, nappy changes and settling whenever needed.

How & when to book

The ideal time to book your newborn session is during pregnancy, usually shortly after your 20-week scan.

Your due date is reserved in my diary, and the session date is confirmed once your baby arrives.

Newborn photographs are often taken within the first two weeks after birth, when babies tend to be sleepier and naturally curled.

However, if your baby has already arrived, please do get in touch. I sometimes have late availability. Beautiful newborn portraits can still be created for older babies.

It’s a good idea to book your newborn photography session while you’re still pregnant. I recommend scheduling for when your baby is between 7-10 days old, as this is the best time to capture those precious sleepy poses. Since I offer limited slots each month, booking in advance ensures I can accommodate your baby’s arrival.

My newborn sessions near Basingstoke usually last between 2-4 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing your baby so we can get the best shots without any rush. The session takes place in my relaxed and cozy studio not far from Basingstoke, providing a comfortable environment for both baby and parents.

You only need to bring essentials like nappies, milk (if bottle-feeding), and a dummy if your baby uses one. I have a wide range of props, outfits, and wraps for the shoot, but you are welcome to bring any special items you’d like to include in the photos.

No worries! As a photographer with years of experience in newborn photography near Basingstoke, I understand that babies can be unpredictable. We’ll take as many breaks as needed for feeding, cuddling, or calming your baby to ensure they’re comfortable throughout the session.

Yes! I encourage family members to be part of the newborn photoshoot. Including parents and siblings creates meaningful images that capture the bond between your family and your new baby.

To help your baby stay sleepy during the session, try keeping them awake for about an hour before arriving and feeding them just before the session starts. Dress your baby in something easy to remove, so we can get started smoothly with a cozy wrap or swaddle.

You’ll receive your fully edited gallery within 1-2 weeks after the session. I’ll carefully select and edit the best images to provide you with stunning memories of your baby’s first days.

Yes, I offer a variety of newborn photography packages, including digital images, prints, and framed wall art. After your session, I’ll help guide you through the options to choose how you’d like to showcase your beautiful images.

Your baby’s safety is my top priority. I have extensive training in newborn posing, ensuring every pose is safe and comfortable for your little one. My studio is kept clean and sanitised, with all precautions taken to provide a safe environment for your newborn photography session near Basingstoke.

My studio is located just outside Andover, in the village of Anna Valley. It's really easy to reach from Basingstoke. I have lots of families return for shoots from the Basingstoke area. It's just a 20 minute zip down the A303.
